About Us

Promises for Families began in 2005 as Promise Camp, a summer camp and outreach ministry of the Episcopal Church in Northwest Texas
and Rev. Roland Rose, Deacon.  Promise Camp Director, Katy Hoskins, wanted to expand the camps to reach greater numbers of children
and expand the program to include year round mentoring opportunities in local schools and with the families.  This vision has become
Promises for Families, Inc.

Over the years, the programs used at camp were integrated and refined to become our signature combination of music, art, movement and
nature.  The incorporation of these four essential elements address different learning modalities in children, and work together to create a
powerful atmosphere of fun, healing and acceptance.

Our activities are led by professional instructors and counselors who are well qualified and have experience working with at-risk, traumatized,
or grieving children. Please see our
Programs & Camps page for additional information. We partner with organizations with host facilities to
provide programs at no charge to the campers.

The mission of the foundation is to provide quality summer camp, after school programs and academic tutoring for children whose lives have
been impacted by parental incarceration.

We welcome your interest in the program.  Currently camps are planned with the YMCA, Girl Scouts of Central Texas, Episcopal Dioceses of
Oklahoma and Texas and school year programs are in place with the YMCA of San Angelo and Tom Green County Library.  Please see the
Contact Page to send us an inquiry.

Mr. Curt W. Hoskins is a rancher and
entrepreneur, and serves as chair of
the Promises for Families Board.   A
fifth generation Texas rancher, he
enjoys raising cattle and horses and
supporting Promises for Families with
sound financial advice.  Although more
at home on the ranch, he joins the PfF
family for the annual Children's Fair in
San Angelo each year, and is a source
of tremendous support and
encouragement for the rest of the PfF
family.
Rev. Roland Rose, Deacon, is known
throughout the Episcopal church in
Northwest Texas for his leadership
activities with camping programs.  After
seeing a need for ministry to the children
of the people he served in prison, he
founded Promise Camp, a summer camp
for children with an incarcerated parent.
He led the Promise Camp program for six
years, and joyfully embraced the mission
of Promises for Families.  We are very
fortunate to have Roland's vision and
enthusiasm as a part of our leadership.
Roland is active in ministries in west
Texas, including the Santa Maria de
Virgin Jubilee Center, Casa de Amigos,
and St. Augustine's Episcopal Anglican
Church in his new home in St.
Petersburg, Florida.
Rev. Judith Burgess is the rector of the
Episcopal Church in Lincoln County, New
Mexico.  Ordained to the priesthood in
1985, she has led congregations in
Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and New
Mexico.  As the vicar of the Episcopal
Mission of the Big Bend, she was
instrumental in building a school in
Terlingua, Texas through the Big Bend
Education Corporation. The success of
this endeavor enabled students in this
remote area of west Texas to attend a
local high school without the burden of a
five hour daily bus ride to the nearest
school in Alpine, Texas.  Judy's
commitment to all of God's children is
absolute, and includes her many rescued
canine and equine friends at her home in
New Mexico.
Melinda Boshears serves as Development Director for the
foundation.  She is a teacher and grant writer, and a native
